Free Tremolo Guitar Virtual Instrument for Kontakt

In my own composing work, I often layer up tremolo parts to breathe life into pads, string arrangements, and sustained musical passages. To make this process quick and intuitive, I built MG Shimmers; a unique acoustic guitar tremolo library for the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt.

My main challenge was to preserve all the natural humanity and beautiful imperfection of a live performance, rather than creating something sterile and static. I am delighted to share this instrument as a free download to help bring movement to your tracks.

How it Works: Capturing the Organic Movement

To create MG Shimmers, I recorded an acoustic guitar playing single-note tremolos, with each take lasting around a full minute in length. Instead of short, rigid loops, this instrument utilises long, continuous performances. I sampled two distinct playing styles to give you different sonic textures:

    • Thumb Tremolo: Soft, warm, and delicate, perfect for subtle background movement.
    • Plectrum Tremolo: Crisper and more defined, giving your pads an organic edge that cuts through a mix.

Under the hood, the engine triggers up to four simultaneous voices. Crucially, each voice starts at a completely random point within its one-minute loop. Because of this, the performance constantly shifts and evolves – you will never hear the exact same sample combination twice.

Key Features & Controls

    • Organic Micro-Nuances: Real acoustic guitar tremolos with natural human variation built right in.
    • Dynamic Modulation: Use your keyboard’s Mod Wheel (CC1) to smoothly control the expression and volume of the textures.
    • Sound Shaping Controls: Simple, intuitive parameters to tailor the sound directly on the interface:
        • Attack & Release: Soften the front of the notes for lush pads, or let them trigger instantly.
        • Low-Pass Filter (LPF) Cutoff: Roll off the highs to tuck the shimmers deep into your arrangement.
        • Reverb: Dial in an expansive, ambient space directly inside the patch.

    • Endless Variation: 4-voice random-start engine ensures an ever-evolving, non-repetitive texture.

Elevating Your Sample Palette

Whether you are scoring for film or looking to add an organic, acoustic top-end to your synth pads, MG Shimmers is designed to sit beautifully in a mix. It represents my core philosophy as an instrument developer: creating highly detailed, realistic, and expressive tools that let you focus entirely on your music.
